MoreFM Home Makeover

More FM "Make it Happen" Makeover

Handy1 was given an opportunity to be involved with MoreFM's "Make it Happen" (the three day home makeover).

Mike took on this project with open arms to give back a little of what Ollie has done for the community and youth.

Planning, designing and scheduling was critical to the success of a three day deadline. Organising deadlines for each job and the tradesmen involved.

Friday

At 5:30am Friday morning it all started, with setting up the MoreFM outside broadcasting vehicle and signage.

Kim and Corbett live on air waking up Ollie and packing his bags for three days accommodation at a local Motel.

At 7:30am it was ALL GO !!! The three day working bee kicks off. With builders, plumbers, painters (both interior and exterior teams), Labourers from MoreFM, Landscapers and other helpers off the street, we had to quickly co-ordinate the project.

Bathroom - Completely gutting back to framing, pre plumbing for new hardware, pre wiring, new flooring and finally tiling the shower tray and floor.

Other areas inside were pulled down, including a bedroom ceiling which was re-insulated and re-gibbed, plus plastering. Removed an old fireplace, reframing gibbing and stopping.

Final job for the day inside was floorsanding the kitchen, lounge, dining room and hallway. Filling nail holes, one coat of sealer and one coat of polyurethane. All preparation work and undercoating complete on interior walls.

Outside jobs that were completed on Friday were boring holes and concreting in the
fence posts, digging out the half basketball court and boxing up ready for concrete Saturday morning. Posts concreted in for new stairs from deck. Sand, prep, and undercoat full exterior.

Friday night was spent ticking off all the jobs completed, making any adjustments to Saturday's tasks and trying to get some sleep.

Saturday

Begins again before the sparrows and is really about the Process. After Friday going like clockwork, Saturdays tasks were to have:
Top coat on both the interior and exterior of the house.
The Bathroom walls tiled.
The second and final coat on the floors.
The basketball court concreted.
The fence finished for painting on Sunday.
All new trellis work and the stairs from the deck finished.
All landscaping completed.

Sunday

All go again with carpets going in the bedrooms. Final coats of paint going on, putting together new furniture, fitting new appliances, decking out the house with furniture etc.

Finishing off the bathroom and grouting.

Removing all rubbish from section and painting out the basketball court.

Project all finished 1.00 AM Monday morning.

Mike's comments:

In review of this project, it was satisfying to project manage something of this magnitude in such a small time frame. It was a pleasure to work with people who were prepared to work for nothing, for a deserving New Zealander.

It highlights the typical genuine giving attitude of kiwis.

Thankyou to MoreFM, and Homestyle Magazine for this opportunity and we look forward to the next one.
